EVENT: SFS 5th Birthday De-Brief

Nobody invited YOU DORIS!

Well THAT WAS FUN! Thankfully Storm Doris, while news reports claimed would ruin our party by preventing guests’ safe arrivals with her 20-30 cms of snow, was ironically a bit of hot air on her part. Yeah there was some nice snow floating down between Livingston and Harthill as I drove through to help set the venue up, but otherwise it was just a nice normal dreich day in Glasgow. Which is perfectly acceptable weather behaviour for February in Scotland.

Shifting furniture and placing props

When I arrived the SFS prom committee (consisting of Artem Scotland, 422.TV, Panalux, Procam, Progressive Broadcast Hire, Titan Props, Gaelforce 10 Management and Visual Impact Scotland) were in full swing dressing the TV studio at SWG3 having gathered some excellent furnishings and props thanks to the kind help from our member Titan Props.

We planned where our party treats would go and once lights and AV was tested, we naffed off for a bit of late lunch and to get party-ready!

Treats in store

Our party treats were:

  • Live DJ set from Mark Robb
  • Dressings and Props from Titan Props
  • Hotdogs (meaty and veggie) and Popcorn from JMD Entertainments
  • Delicious sponsored Gin drinks stand from locally owned Makar Glasgow Gin
  • Gorgeous ‘corporate kisses’ branded meringue melt-in-the-middle bites from @Lily_BakesCakes
  • Photo fun from Blushbooth
  • SFS Goody Bags with promotional material from some of our members
  • And to celebrate us coming under our party budget, we bunged some dosh behind the bar for a free bar so guests could have a drink or two on SFS.

Welcome and showreel

After we’d let some folks arrive, warm up, say hello to industry chums, and grab a gin or two – SFS Affiliate Member Amanda Millen of ScreenHI & XpoNorth, said a quick hello to the crowd, explained who SFS were (in case anyone didn’t know) – and we screened our latest showreel showcasing just the tiniest fraction of the work our members do for the screen industries in Scotland and beyond!

And then the party continued.

We could’ve danced all night

And then there was dancing. Oh my was there dancing.

And pretty darned good dancing I might add.

Party in 60 seconds

Here’s a brilliant wee film of the night by Sean Corbett.

Thanks for coming!

We had an incredible night, thanks to all our industry guests who braved the February weather to come and party with us!

Thanks to all who made our event possible

Huge thanks to the incredible SWG3 venue and all its staff who helped us put on this big ‘do’, and to our suppliers DJ Mark Robb, JDM Entertainment, Lily Bakes Cakes, Blushbooth, our fellow SFS Members, and the wonderful sponsored drinks from the delicious Makar Glasgow Gin! Please if you like gin, taste this lovely gin! With a slice of chilli! And do consider having their fabulous gin stall at your event.
