The EIFF 2015 programme included an In Person event this year that struck a chord of complaint from some local industry practitioners due to financial difficulties on a screen project in Scotland a few years before.
The In Person event with Malcolm McDowell was due to take place on 26 June to discuss his film BEREAVE but was later cancelled. Industry union BECTU requested the festival reconsider the event since Mr McDowell was producer on the former project MONSTER BUTLER that still owed money to Scotland based companies and crew for work completed. Mr McDowell made a statement to support his position and affection for Scotland, and later withdrew from attending the festival this year.
SFS also wrote to EIFF to express concern over the event as two of our members worked on the project and were left unpaid.
We thank EIFF for listening and respondong to our group’s concerns.
