SFS contributed to two industry programme events at EIFF 2015

 

Raiders of the Lost Costs: This industry panel event took place on Saturday 20 June at the Delegate’s Centre and examined the often overlooked costs of a screen production. SFS members David Johnstone of WK Film Insurance, and Glynn Henderson of Action Media Safety.

Budgeting may not be the most glamorous aspect of producing but it’s of course essential to be as accurate as possible. No one wants to have unexpected cots thrust upon them so join our panel of experts looking at often ’sidelined’ costs of the production budget. Be prepared to hear some horror stories and worst-case scenarios of budgeting gone wrong…

Panellists include:

Glynn Henderson (Action Media Safety): With over 30 years specialising in film and television production and renowned for their pragmatic, ‘can-do’ approach to safety. Recent credits include: World War Z, Cloud Atlas, Hansel and Gretal: Witch Hunters and Dracula Untold.
Katherine Otway (Kenren Media Ltd): Since setting up in Glasgow Katharine has worked on several films, including You Instead, Jig, Citadel, God Help The Girl, Blackwood, Starred Up and Swung.
Maggie Rodford (Air Edel): Maggie’s credits as music producer, co-ordinator and/or supervisor include Cinderella, Belle, Anna Karenina, Brave, Cabin in the Woods, Thor, Jane Eyre and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
David Johnstone (WK Film Insurance): David has specialised in film and television insurance since 2006. He has offered advice and arranged production insurance for over fifty British feature films and thousands of hours of network television. He founded his own company, WK Film Insurance, in 2013.
Shian Holt (Screen Academy Scotland): Training as a Locations Assistant in 2000 she has worked across Feature Films, Broadcast Television and Commercials in Scotland for 7 years in both the Locations Department and Production. In 2010 she started working for GMAC Film developing and delivering new talent and youth film education programmes, continuing to work closely with the industry. Film & TV credits include: Ae Fond Kiss, Blind Flight, Morvern Caller, Late Night Shopping, Rebus, Taggart, Chewin’ the Fat, Only An Excuse.
Chair: Claire Mundell, Producer (Synchronicity Films) – Credits include Weekend, Crying with Laughter, Not Another Happy Ending.

 

Early Doors Networking Drinks: For the regular industry networking drinks throughout the festival SFS teamed up with fellow member organisation Independent Producers Scotland (IPS)  to co-host the networking drinks on Sunday 21 June.
